India has (so far) a very pragmatic approach to balancing the rights of all parties when it comes to copyright and intellectual property claims. PepsiCo chose the wrong country to pick this fight. Surprised they didn't learn from Monsato packing its bag and leaving India. India was forced to open its economy to foreign seeds company by the WorldBank. But it recognized the danger of allowing a few foreign corporates to have a monopoly on seed production and distribution, along with flawed claims on intellectual property on biotechnology that favour them at the expense of the farmers and national interest. It has thus always been hostile to them to protect its food security.
