The current soldier of the year speaks Mandarin.
This made me chuckle
The above article was written in 2014, just FYI.
“ The quality of people willing to serve has been declining rapidly”
Huh, I wonder why high quality youth aren’t more eager to fly across the world and kill 8-year-olds for the honor of the uniform…
Because there is no draft in the USA
I have some bad news: a draft would not magically make people eager to become soldiers or willing to go to war. In the US, I expect it would have quite the opposite effect.
Kids are playing video games instead of doing sports.
Quick gratification and its ease of access, depression epidemic, news 24/7. I can see why many like to escape into a video game.
It seems that this is not a problem or the US military wouldn't spend so much sponsoring the creation of games and sponsoring eSports.
I heard the US has a base in Ramstein where they play video games. I don't see why these people would not qualify.
Seeing waistlines of most US servicemen, I think they don't play much anything other than computer games

There was a spec-ops guy on Joe Rogan who said that it's nearly impossible to find good spec-ops candidates, because kids don't play enough sports and they're out of shape.
Being overweight or mentally ill is cause for disqualification. All the kiddies with autism can't go.
The US military is currently accepting recruits with autism, as long as it doesn't interfere with duty or training. Or something like that.
Frankly, mild autism is an _asset_ in the military. It's an environment where the rules don't have to make any sense; they just have to be followed.
There are a lotvof mentally ill people in the military.
Seeing autism as a mental illness I suppose is a perspective that is more widely shared and debatable, but what does being overweight have to do with anything?
Developmental disability != mental illness
