_Branch immediately messaged and called Airbnb. He was told his case would be “escalated to a specialized team.”_
_“…and he said, ‘Okay, someone will be in touch with you tonight.’ Nothing,” said Branch*
_The listing stayed up for weeks and, last weekend, another stranger showed up to the home, saying she had rented the house on Airbnb.*
“Escalated to a specialized team.” Right.
I’ve noticed Airbnb removed the star ratings visibility on user reviews, so now we only get an average of all reviews and have to read through all existing reviews to figure out what issues there may be with a rental location.
I find that pretty deceitful, and it seems to incentivize high volume owners to ignore any customer support issues since a bad review will easily get buried.
A pretty bad sign of where that platform is heading.
While we're on this topic from another website (not Airbnb) my family booked a week long stay at what we assumed was a house dedicated to holiday stays (and not someone's actual home).
Turns out the house is also listed on AirBnB and someone does live there (food in the fridge, stuff in drawers, locked bedrooms).
I think the person who booked it must've missed some detail, but we assumed because we specifically didn't use Airbnb, that we weren't going to be staying in someone's actual home.
Love the quality of the service. Idk why it’s so hard to address these problems considering how much they charge in fees
Heh, we had renters show up at a house we bought (probably a month after closing). Turns out the previous owners hadn't removed the listing. Felt bad for the people who showed up but VRBO did find them an alternate rental within the 45 mins we sat chatting with them in our kitchen.
Airbnb is blacklisted for me, I have had numerous problems with them as a service and with the shitty people that tend to put their homes on that platform.
Last Airbnb I booked resulted in a elderly Hispanic couple walking in on my SO and I in the act because apparently they double booked us by a couple days and use the same door code for all guests.
Just another example of a tech darling “disrupting” an existing industry by ignoring regulation and refusing to provide customer service.
From the outside looking in, that story is hilarious.
This whole thread gives me pause to ever rent out my mother's property via AirBnB though. I think I will look for a reputable property management company and long-term renters instead.
Honestly if it was just the walk in it would be, the couple was pretty funny about it. However they were effectively without a place to stay at 11pm in NYC during the winter.
They managed to book a hotel, but it was an awkward 2 hours to say the least while they called around.
What really set me off was that the door code was just completely public, so anyone that had stayed there in the past who knows how long could just walk right in.
Airbnb is a shit show and a huge step backwards in the name of progress.
Not even touching how they have royally fucked the renters markets in a lot of areas.
Funnily enough I've had that happen to me in a regular hotel... twice, on separate occasions/different hotels. It was startling for all involved to say the least.
Yeah they seem to reuse hotel door keys idk why but I’ve had it happen too
