It started with this Gemini pod.
My first attempt at self hosting anything.
It was a fun learning curve, from setting up servers and domains to security certs and learning gemtext (which is pretty simple).
I'm not the smartest with this sort of stuff, more just a hobby that i like to dabble in.
I got the bug though, and wanted to do more.
Since then i've tried search engines, Mastodon, chat servers, cloud, email, and soon a peertube instance.
Sometimes, it is a bit overwhelming, other times, it just falls into place.
The good thing is i feel like i'm learning something new, each failure is a chance to improve my knowledge, and so far, i've managed to muddle through most of it and get something up and running.
I'm still getting my head round a lot of the processes, nginx etc, but one small step at a time :)
I'm looking for new things to try out now, really just to experiment with as i don't actually need any of these day to day, but it's a lot of fun when it finally works.
My dream though, is a non internet internet :) something that can exist when normal comms go down. It would probably involve radio, I need to look into it more and see what turns up.
If you know of something, write about it, maybe i'll find it on my journey through gemspace.
