Hello

Published 2020-05-10 17:30 UTC

One day in the beginning of the month –just over a week ago– I was reading my Mastodon feed and found a link to Gemini through a post by a Hacker News bot. I found the protocol interesting and after I read the documentation available on the website, I dived into the mailing list over the next days and tried out the SSH kiosk.

Now that I'm running a server, I'll tell you a little about myself. My name is Katarina, born in 1982 and have since lived in a few places around the lake Mälaren in Sweden. I'm active in a few computer clubs in Stockholm and I like to visit other such places when traveling to tech conferences.

The web going from documents to applications have always rubbed me the wrong way, I've even played with the idea of creating a more suitable protocol for application so that they would stop strong arm the web into submission. Not being in a position where I could be backed by a major player made that idea far from feasible.

Finding Gemini gave me a few ideas for new projects and see some old uncompleted projects in a new light. I have a mountain of those. Hopefully, some of them will actually get built.
