I went over to give the bees a top up of another kilogram of sugar. It's relatively warm today so I just wore a veil and gloves. A single bee was checking me out but there was no aggression. The Porter escapes ensure there are no bees in the roof level of the hive so it's only bees that happen to be around the hive that come to take a look. In today's weather a lot of them were out foraging, buzzing as they went, so I was bound to get one or two.
It's nice to not have to wear a full suit. Once I can find some nitrile gloves with an extended cuff I might switch from my thick rubber gloves to those. It'll be easier to manipulate the frames that way.
I wonder whether a possible split from this colony next year will be similarly docile.
