“Amazon, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, Etsy — all of those are utilized by illicit online sellers, and they’re allowed to get away with it because the illicit sellers are allowed to operate with anonymity on the internet.”
These sites are enabling crime. Why do they not make sellers register with identification and ask for proof of item ownership or source information when selling?
probably costs and legal responsibilities if they didn't catch something if that was implemented.
If its online and i want to screw someone out of something who's to say im registering with MY information? How do you provide proof of item ownership to something your grandparents gave you when they died? (especially if it was handed down to them in the first place? thinking vintage appliances here, or what about a mint condition babe ruth rookie card? that came with a piece of gum what 60/70 years ago? reciepts weren't even a thing)
I get it with brand new, in box tools.. but again someone would have to manage that and if you got screwed by ebay they'd be liable if they vouched for it.
You could use facial recognition like most dating sites do.
