As with tools like the Myers–Briggs and Enneagram personality type indicators, DISC assessments, and even the Five Love Languages, this is an attempt to categorize people into one of several distinct groups based on some dominant personality or behavioral trait.
But in all of these cases, there is an acknowledgment by the tools' creators that in reality people are much more layered and generally fall into multiple categories, or the distribution is highly fluid and depends on the situation they find themselves in.
So for me, I find they're almost like horoscopes. They're more useful as a tool to get people thinking about their own unique personality and behaviors, rather than as an objective tool for employers, romantic partners, investors, or UX designers to base decisions on.
They are horoscopes.
There’s as much science to Scientology as there are to all of these personality types tests.
It’s all comparing fastest speed (or insert any other metric) of a car by their paint colour (yes there’s is correlation probably but changing the colour of your car is not going to make it go faster).
I'm not sure what the point of this post is - it just restates Bartle's player types. The introduction implies there's going to be some sort of analysis of how to tailor game play to each type, but there's only a vague sentence or two for each type. There aren't even any example games that would at least give you an idea of the games each type might prefer.
