2021/0723/1700 — black and white

The week continues to be dull, grey, damp and cold. I rode down through the suburbs to Karkarook park and went for a lap around the lake, on the way I decided today's wildlife theme was black and white. even the grey birds were black in the dull skies; the Noisy miners[1] and Red wattlebirds[2]. Out on the water black coots[3] paddled around leaving large v-shaped wakes behind them, on a buoy in silhouette there was perched a Great Black cormorant[4], it was only on reaching the southern bank of the lake that I met the white, the splashing squabbling flock of Silver gulls[5]. Further on and both black and white, a Willy wagtail[6] darted past.

Exiting the park back into suburban streets a pair of Blackbirds[7] darted out of the scrub beside the path and then overhead a solitary Little corella[8], looking unusual in its solitude, normally I see them in flocks. Just as I was making sure I could remember them all there was a flash of colour, the brilliant green, red and yellow as a pair of Eastern rosellas[9] flew out of a garden, trying to ruin my monochrome monologue!
