The cockatoos[1] are back in the garden in the plum tree, feasting on the kernels and making a huge mess under the tree of discarded fruit and snipped off branchlets. Fascinating to watch them -- all left-footed -- as they pick off twigs of leaves that are in their way, snip off a plum with their beak then pick it up in their foot to chew into it enough to get to the stone which they then split in half. Not so enjoyable if you're an orchadist I'm sure, but these plums are very small, suitable only for cooking and sauce and this year the tree is so overloaded with them that we'd rather just watch the cockies eating them!
