Our Second Mini Heat Wave In New York This Summer

tisdag juni 29, 2021

Looking at my Arduino built indoor thermometer, it's 39.01 C 102.22 F, that's

inside the apartment, with all the windows open. One wonders what it would be

like if any of them were closed. Anyhow, it's not as bad as one would expect.

I think I'm on either my sixth or seventh cold shower and it's really working

out for me. I've ditched my air conditioner almost a decade ago and New York

summers aren't usually that bad, really. Usually a week like this one with three

hot, humid days in the high nineties and then a cooling off period in the seventies,

usually at nights. I find, that a constant stream of liquid consumption and cold

showers, or any showers for that matter, usually keeps me degrees cooler that the

metric relates. Only one more day to go and I like my odds.

So to recap, the temperatures outside 17:13:33 UTC in New York, just a little

north of the city, is 96.1 F (35.6 C), a heat index of 101.7 F (38.7 C), a

relative humidity of 41%; while on the inside with all the windows open and

curtains parted, the heat index is 102.22 F (39.01 C) with a relative humidity

of 60%. All in all not a bad situation. I'm sure my neighbors are all using their

air conditioners and I hope it's working for them. My methods described earlier,

above, seems to get the job done and also, gives me something to write about.

For an update, it is now 22:45:47 UTC and the temperature inside now has a Heat

index of 39.69 C 103.45 F and the heat index outside is 101.1 F (38.4 C). I'm

definitely going to need another shower or two. However, it's still not a bad

situation.
