Great news for women’s rugby in Cork as Six Nations fixture announced for Musgrave Park

02 Dec

The IRFU have announced that the Irish women’s rugby team will be hosting Italy at Musgrave Park on April 10 2022. The Musgrave Park match is just one of Ireland’s home fixtures for the 2022 Women’s Six Nations with other matches being spread out across Dublin and Belfast. On hosting three home matches, IRFU CEO Philip Browne said that “we are optimistic that our 2022 Six Nations will be one of the best-supported campaigns ever." “We hope that by bringing the team closer to the provincial clubs that are developing women's and girl's rugby, we can encourage even more female involvement, at all levels,” he said. Under Head Coach Greg McWilliams the Ireland Women will get their 2022 campaign underway against Wales on 26th March at the RDS in Dublin. The team will play in France for Round 2, before their second home game here in Cork at Musgrave Park, the same venue where the Munster senior women’s team won their only home game of the 2021 Interprovincial Championship on their way to clinching the Interpro title. Cork Ireland Rugby players Anna Caplice, Leah Lyons and Enya Breen will be back on home turf once again at Musgrave Park and are sure to inspire young girls and women as women’s rugby steadily grows county-wide. Here in Cork, the Ballincollig women’s rugby team have been steady throughout the All Ireland League with an impressive 27-5 win against Bantry Bay just last week while Dolphin RFC are in their first year with a senior women’s squad after the restart of women’s rugby within the club. .
