Back home from taking my friends to the city. Stopped off

for a bit at the Sacramento Zoo. It's too damn hot this

year. Makes one home for another ice age. In the meantime,

one of the Pacific Chorus tadpoles we've been raising has

transformed into a proper frog and lost its tail.

After being instructed on the ways of fire prevention

yesterday, I set to work cutting low branches on the

fir trees, clearing Himalayan Blackberry, and generally

trying to clean up brush. I have cuts all over and I'm

really going to feel it in my arms tomorrow. Regardless,

the garden gets substantially more light. Here's to

hoping I didn't kill any trees. Yvonne and I picked up

a copy of <insert-mouse-game-here>, a cooperative TTRPG.

It was waaaay too hardcore for us. Can't we get an easy

dungeon ffs.

Vaguely ecstatic over having found a very

well-thought-out letter that had been returned to

sendered before my move. I got the corrected address

but couldn't find the letter until now. Haley, thank you

for your patience. Went to SF today and saw my coworkers

for the first time since the pandemic. Strange days.

There was a stray cat that snuck into the yard. We waved

at it and it snuck around still obviously visible. It did

not become a friend. Not that I want a cat. I like our

house lizards too much to bring in a troublemaking cat

Resusitated my old nikon point and shoot. The battery

compartment is mkssing the latch but a washer and some

electrical tape will do. The flash on this thing is just a

thing of beauty. Cleaned up my workshop setup and unboxed a

package full of fun junk from my mother. They really just

need to pack a uhaul of my junk and send it over. Maybe I

can help with that this winter. Watching E3 has me only

excited for a handful of games. Star Maker is not living

up to its hype though it does seem like Stellaris is

straight up based on the book

Had a power outage for much of the day due to a downed

power line. Really makes the solar + battery backup

contract I just signed feel less expensive. When my laptop

battery died, I signed out of work for the day and sat on

the porch with some iced tea and a book.

We lost one of our pacific chorus froglets. Just hours

after it gained the ability to climb out of the water we

found it had shuffled off this mortal coil. Now down to but

one pacific chorus frog. Luckily, they are a native species

around her in case we want to try to foster more. We're

much better prepared now.

Despite looming compliance audits and deadlines, I've truly

been enjoying the last few weeks at work. Solid banter in

chat, a lot of camaraderie. After signing off for the day

and talking about housework with a coworker, I put an hour

into pulling scotch brush from the yard and put together a

couple letters. A new Melsonian Arts Council book dropped

and you can bet I copped that shit

A good day with Y

After trying out a new battery-powered chainsaw I drove

into the Bay Area pretty early in the day and took the

subway to SF. After a brief stop at RS94109 and a bus

down Fulton, I met up with some friends in Golden Gate

Park, drank beers, and petted a dog. It was a nice day

and I got to use my camera. Not a drive I love. Maybe

next time I'll listen to something more engaging than

Olaf Stapleton.

Spent some time today pulling out Scotch Broom and had the

first small harvest of tomatoes. They had some end-rot so

I ate around it and added a calcium fertilizer to the list

of things to pick up from Ace Hardware. Y and I went to the

Buena Vista Flower Garden, a private home that sports an

incredibly beautiful array of plants and flowers in both

the shade and sun. Talking to the couple that has been

working on the garden for 30 years, the gentleman works in

the garden about 10 hours a day. Talk about dedication!

Afterwards, I visited the Searls Library, an absolute trove

of local history and records. I received a lovely tour and

picked up some archiving tips. Acid free plastic sleaves

for photos, alright! Guess I'll make that part of the

is-it-annotated-in-the-database process. Sadly they didn't

have any cool historical records of my house but that's

okay. I went across the highway to the Nevada County

Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum. Talk about a hoot! Tons of

history in a cozy space with friendly docents. Had a

gentleman walk me through the whole museum, explaining

how the railroad came to be and that the trains on the

line burned wood in steam engines. I got some cool books

and souvenirs from the gift shop before heading home.

Hoping that some day I can help volunteer at either of

these places.
