Ran into a fun problem where my pihole was hardcoded for a
different network range so I couldn't ssh to it and the
only user password I knew had a # symbol in it. Apparently
the input was configured on the pi to british keyboard so
I had no way of inputting the password! Ended up creating
a tiny network with the correct ranges and sshing that way.
Aside from that, I continue to take ax swings at a large,
dead tree branch.
Played the House Doesn't Always Win for ttrpg night. Really
well made system.
With about a half hour of effort and a beer of energy, I
was able to take down a large dead limb from an oak tree
using some handtools. I should really get a chainsaw. I
also discovered a Japanese Pittosporum in the front yard.
It smells nice and the bees love it.
After a morning garage sale where I bought a couple hand
tools, we went to San Jose for Mother's Day. There, my
mother-in-law and I made a verbal agreement to purchase a
house in Vietnam together. Sweet deal. Later, while
visiting friends in San Mateo, I took a walk to the lovely
downtown area and found it bustling with the usual rich
and beautiful people. I found the remnants of Super Evil
and spent an hour and way too much money at B Street Books.
Oncall weekend, started with a trip to a small garage sale
that was a bust and Ace Hardware. Spent some quality time
with Yvonne outside.
Some initial progress on creating a defensible space around
the property. I'm going to need a rake and a ladder sooner
than later.
Assembled an IKEA Billy bookscae with glass doors. Probably
the biggest pain-in-the-ass of their collection yet but it
looks pretty good. Still trying to understand how Nix works.
I bought a step ladder so now I can finally get on the roof
woo what could possibly go wrong
Continuing Gods amd Robots, a wonderful look into classical
history and the intersection of technology, myth, amd culture.
Jerking off on inanimate objects is not a 21st century
phenomenon
Have not touched my computer today. Put together a couch,
got a picnic table and bench, and purchased corn, strawberry
and pepper transplants. Continued Gods and Robots as I put
together an adhoc raised bed.
Finished Gods and Robots and picked up a frog terrarium
from a local seller in the Idaho-Maryland area. Saw a bunch
of signs that were anti-mine and went home and the day's
newspaper had an article about a gold mine in that area
trying to open back up. Wild
After a day of work in which few people showed up and even
fewer did work on account of the three-day weekend, I put
together a little composting box. Using some leftover stakes
and scrapwood, I got to practice using the circular saw,
sawhorses, and mallet. It doesn't look half-bad. All the
while, I listened to the first few chapters of Olaf
Stapleton's Starmaker. Certainly less dry than Last and
First Men, but still lretty dry. It's got a bit more of a
flavor of Gullivers Travels and anticipates the smartphone
rather well.
After a couple of moving sales (everyone is moving to
Hawaii and Bali apparently) in which I got several new
houseplants and none of the things I had on my list, I got
up on the garage roofs and cleaned some gutters. Surviving
this, we went down to a reptile store and asian grocery store.
Friends coming in this evening
Yesterday we acquired some tadpoles. The initial setup was a
tall 1 gallon tank. I don't think they love the height so I'm
prepping an old terrarium for them with just gravel. Went gold
panning at Auburn State Park. It was hot as fuck, but seeing
a family of geese swimming up river made my day.
