wolfmd phlog for december 2020

2020/12/24

Back in Oakland and back in the swing of things. On call over Christmas isn't

so bad when there are no engineers pushing changes to break things. I spent

the day reading Troika! source books, particularly

Fronds of Benevolence [HTTPS]

I took some time to rearrange the apartment which has really been making me

feel claustrophobic. I plan on starting Gulliver's Travels and continuing

my Dwarf Fortress assuming I can figure out why my dwarven manager has stopped

managing

Honestly spent way too much of today playing Dwarf Fortress. It's somehow more

addicting than Rimworld### quite an impressive feat. But hey, it's Christmas, I

can do what I want. I found my old Bitcoin wallet with half a bitcoin in it.

That's a nice little treat itself. Reading Gulliver's Travels while my wife

lays in my lap and watches boys love anime makes for as cozy of a Christmas as

I can hope for at this point in my life.

Day spent visiting relatives. I got smoked in cards.

Finished the last of my post-trip chores and probably would have benefited

from sleeping in a few more hours. Looking at housing is depressing. Markets

that I'm looking at are horribly inflated.

Is there a reason to go to work when there's nothing to be done during the

change freeze? It's like the same ghost-town feeling I got in the early days

of Covid, walking down Market in SF.

I had a dream I was endlessly in a cycle of picking out groceries from a very

crowded Trader Joe's, forgetting my cart, leaving the store, realizing I

never purchased anything and going back in.

First run-in with death in Dwarf Fortress. Titans are freaky. Then I finished

Midnight Gospel's first season. It'd be nice to find a way to keep some of

those thoughts on death with me at all times. Maybe I'd be a better person.

My Dwarven fortress was destroyed by a dragon. My friend and I rejoined a

Mumble server we haven't been in for years to catch up with video game

friends from long ago. Nothing has changed. Happy New Year!
