S. Aurelius Augustinus
St. Augustine's Confessions is undoubtedly one of the most influential books penned throughout history. Describing the great saint's long lifetime, from his birth, to his pagan father and his devoutly Christian (and indeed canonized saint) mother, St. Monica, the book recounts St. Augustine's journey from mischievous youth to dissolute adult to baptism and Christian life in moving and specific terms. Presented here in its original language, Latin, the work is a testament to the famous and beautiful passage from its very first paragraph: fecisti nos ad te, et inquietum est cor nostrum, donec requiescat in te. "Thou hast made us for Thyself, and our heart is restless, until it rests in Thee." With nearly six dozen pages of explanatory notes, an index of chapters, a thorough table of contents, and Scriptural references marked off as they appear in the text, this volume can be a treasure. 211 pp., Latin.
