Billionaires are toxic to democracy.

How are we supposed to stand up to these people? They can out-spend everyone to buy all the news organizations they want, and then pay them to pump out propaganda.

While we are arguing about pronouns they continue to pump out carbon emissions and make sure the money keeps flowing for oil companies.

i think you're focusing on a special case, billionaires, whereas the symptoms you cite arise in many ways when individuals, for various reasons, form collusions.

Hokusai wrote at 2021-11-29 20:55:31:

More people requires more effort, if just one individual or one company can mobilize huge amounts of money it becomes effortless to bend the system your own way.

That's why it's hard to organize hundreds of thousands of employees to fight for their rights in a company. Company there is only one with quite aligned goals, employees are many with misaligned if not goals priorities.

i think youre assuming collusion where modern society just need them to identify the same self interests.

i know we see collusion, but its not needed if you have near perfect transfer of media.

excellent point

I hope you do know that Jack Dorsey is also a billionaire. Let them slog it out and just enjoy the show from the sidelines.

Also the new CEO is a very technical person so it will be interesting to watch what he envisions for Twitter .

government and democracy and unions, omy

which of the 2 billionaires are the toxic one here or just both? You are right though they are happy for the public to be distracted with woke fighting while they make more money.

aaomidi wrote at 2021-11-29 21:42:43:

Both.

twitter is playing both sides taking the money from the PACS and giving the brain scramble to others...

jack is no longer the ceo

The article is almost two years old already. I think the submitter might have wanted to contribute this angle exactly because of the change in leadership at Twitter.

bandyaboot wrote at 2021-11-29 17:15:09:

Exactly this. Certainly not suggesting a definitive cause and effect. Just something to be aware of for anyone interested in the Dorsey news.

bhhaskin wrote at 2021-11-29 17:47:58:

It should be labeled (2020). Otherwise it really isn't related. If a user just reads the headline (let's face it most users do just that) it implies this is the reason he has resigned. Which tbh is super miss leading.

Using the footer Contact link lets the mods know about these things much sooner than they might notice otherwise. I see they’ve already found this anyways, but duly noted.

bandyaboot wrote at 2021-11-29 20:11:09:

Actually I added the suggested label.

floatingatoll wrote at 2021-11-29 23:28:11:

Noted, but I can't encourage site users to contact anyone but the mods for this concern. While others may note it and fix it in passing (year is swell, thanks dang), formally, the path of record is the footer contact link.

It finally worked! Jack Dorcey just resigned.
