After lunch I was sitting in the garden listening to the birds and reading a book about a young naturalist who was often sitting in his garden listening to the birds. Opposite ends of the world, very different ages, but amusing at the time. A Spotted dove[1] was cooing loudly from the neighbour's TV aerial and small flocks of Common mynas[2] were chattering as they flew overhead or squabbled in the bay tree. Somewhere in the distance a Little raven[3] called, and a few pairs of Rainbow lorikeets[4] rocketed overhead, a flash of green on their way to the next flowering gum or bottlebrush
