A bit of a lazy ride today, I'd worn myself out doing garden chores so just rolled around my typical afternoon outing, calling in at the Glen Iris wetlands for a look around to watch the birds and maybe spot something out of the ordinary…
A half-dozen moorhens[1] paddling about squawking, a couple of pairs of Black ducks[2] upending themselves and feeding, nothing much else to spot at the first pond so around to the bird hide — and amusedly less birdlife there than at the first pond. Leaving the hide and getting back to the main track a Swamphen[3] stalked briskly past, reminded me of a businessman late for a bus but too important to run.
It was only after leaving the ponds and heading around towards the boardwalk that I met today's high point, a young guy with a backpack of camera gear was trying to set up his shot of a large Long-necked turtle that had been walking around on the paths well away from the water. Apparently it's mating season and this one — male — was going walkabout looking for a mate
