Some time around mid afternoon it started raining and it hasn't let up all afternoon and evening. The forecast is for up to 35mm of rain for the rest of the day so I was clearly going to get wet when I went out for my daily — afternoon — ride. I did get wet. All the birds were very subdued, mostly away roosting to stay warm and dry I suspect.
Off down the Djerring trail and there were a few Magpies[1] and Little ravens[2] poked around in lawns digging for worms in the softened soil, and just after Huntingdale station I rode past a pair of Galahs[3] chomping their way through the seed heads in the grass beside the path. Nothing much caught my eye or ear until half-way home along Scotchmans creek, glancing to my right there was a Kookaburra[4] sitting silently on a branch just a few metres off the path and only a metre off the ground, all fluffed up and looking half asleep, I'm not sure if it was just waiting out the rain or patiently watching the ground underneath for any signs of worms or disturbed insects.
