2021/0726/1500 — wetlands

One wetlands yesterday, the other one today. Glen Iris and Huntingdale, both on Gardeners creek but at least 5km apart and the former far more park like than the latter. There's a new bike path through the Huntingdale wetlands, a smooth concrete wide path replacing the old, narrow, rutted, cracking tar path that had been there for decades. Apparently it took years to get done, the land belongs to the water authority but the paths are built by the council, but only with the former's approval. The new path is a little closer to the water and gives a good view of whatever waterbirds are in the ponds — today not much visible other than some Black ducks[1] and pairs of Chestnut teal[2], but at times many more. I suspect there would have been more if I'd stopped for a look around rather than just riding through keeping my eye on all the walkers & their dogs.
