A suburban bike ride this afternoon, away from the parkland and mostly just past houses. The weather windy and blustery, all the small birds vanished and nothing much else to be seen. A couple of pairs of Little ravens[1] were foraging on a lawn, some Noisy miners[2] being noisy — no surprises there — in the bushes beside the bike track, and a couple of pairs of Magpies[3] calling from a rooftop. I suspect that the ravens and magpies are starting to pair up, getting ready for spring, and nesting, and the inevitable swooping.
