A Saturday in lockdown... again... restricted to 5km from home and only a few reasons to leave the house. I was out for a ride this morning, for grocery shopping just after lunch. The rest of the day its been inside the house. Around 4.30pm there was the constant noise of the police helicopter so I walked outside to take a look and was surprised to see not only the chopper over the next suburb to the south-east but an eagle soaring around to the south! Thankfully well separated, but I hope the pilot kept his eyes out for sky hazards as well as whoever they're searching for on the ground! Called the rest of the family out and we watched as the eagle circle around, passing almost directly over us, then off to the north. I'm not 100% convinced it was a Wedge-tailed eagle[1] -- although I know they've been seen over the parkland a couple of suburbs south of us -- but without assistance from a better birder, it'll remain unidentified other than in a poor photo taken at the limit of the phone-camera's zoom.
