Grey rainy day and acting as driver for the family when I should have been working from home; number one son to school to collect books for lockdown next week -- he's been home all week sick. Afternoon was taking spouse to Dandenong for an appointment at the hospital, rather than pay $20 for hospital parking and spend my time waiting in the waiting room I drove around the block and paid $2 to park near the market and wandered around the near-empty shops and forecourt in the rain.
Despite the distance from the coast there's a large flock of Silver gulls[1] wheeling and calling overhead, on the lookout for chips and scraps, but left hungry today with hardly any people around. Inside the slightly shabby shopping mall a starling[2] flew back and forth in the food court, it had made its way inside and couldn't get back out ... or maybe it didn't want to get back out. Other than that, some pigeons[3] sat hunched on a windowsill with their backs to the drizzle
