Another day's ride up around a familiar loop of bike tracks & roads; up the Anniversary trail, down through the autumn leaves along the Ferndale track, once or twice around the Glen Iris wetlands then up the road to Carnegie and home along the Djerring trail. Late afternoon on a still autumn day must be the best time of day on the best time of year to be out for a ride with the colours through the trees and crunch of leaves underfoot... err, wheel.
A couple of Black ducks[1] were squabbling in the pond, a family of Dusky moorhens[2] had come up out of the reeds to peck around near the path. Small flock of Spotted dove[3] were sorting themselves out for the evening's roosting and a White-faced heron[4] was stalking in the shallows beside the boardwalk, watching me cautiously but not flying off.
