2021/0212/1730 — toadies

Three days and counting... after the restart[1].

A mentally taxing day. Melbourne is experiencing PTSD as a new 5 day stage 4 lockdown is announced, commencing at midnight. Last chance today to go out for a ride more than 5km from home, we'll be back inside that oh-so-well-known circle for the next few days.

Down to the bay to feel the sea breeze, see the sun on the waves, smell the seaweed and hear the gulls. Up around the bay and inland along Elwood canal -- half drainage ditch, half creek, all mud and smell. Amazingly it is absolutely filled with toadies -- Common toadfish[2], hmm, maybe not -- hundreds and hundreds of them in one enormous school from where I first looked down in the water near Beach road to where I parted company in Glenhuntly. I uploaded a photo to inaturalist, but they might be some other kind of toadie.
