Re:Zero, when first making its anime adaptation debut in 2016, really caught my interest. Isekai was not so oversaturated back in that time, so it felt like something unique and new to the table. The cast of characters was also wildly diverse in comparison to quite a few other anime around that time. I remember waiting for the series to end before binging it all in one go, and the same thing goes for season 2. The difference however, is that while I was eagerly craving more after both seasons, it was in a different way after season 1.
Re:Zero's second season was all taking place during a single arc of the story. This resulted in a lot of unanswered questions, extremely dragged out episodic story-lines, and an unbearable feeling of "can this hurry up?" coming back many times, especially during the ladder half of the season. This lead to a feeling of wanting more after the season ended, but in the sense of "this was not enough to satisfy me" rather than "I am eagerly excited to see more" the way that season 1 made me feel. These thoughts seem to be reflected in the MAL reviews of the show, as it is noticeably lower compared to the first season of the show. As mentioned before, this season left too many unanswered questions, such as:
Combine these factors with the fact that a lot of good story expanding opportunities were used up for lame fight scenes, and it is no wonder that this season was not seen as favourably as season one of the series. It is worth noting that there was no shortage of waifus this season, if you're that kind of guy (or girl).
