I have been working really hard lately. Part of it is due to the fact that there is little going on in my life out side of work; part to the fact that when COVID-19 hit us, I felt responsible for making sure that my team could support the Group as much as possible so we wouldn't take any hit; and part is because there have been big changes in the Industry: Next Gen consoles are about to be a thing, and the streaming of games is getting more and more popular.
Fun fact: my chair broke and I am now sitting on a yoga ball until the new one is delivered, which lead me to being told to "stop boincing" during a Zoom meeting with co-workers. (Before you question my ability to be professional, this was a friendly, informal catch up meeting).
I installed the Kristall[3] browser today and spent some time tweaking my gemini capsule over at gemini://tanelorn.city/~melyanna/ so it looks good on it. I am still not 100% happy with the outcome as I'd like for it to also look clear and easy to read on terminal based browsers like Bombadillo[4]. But I am getting closer to a template that I can apply across all pages in the capsule.
I like that both Kristall and Bombadillo support several different protocols such as gemini, https, gopher, and finger. It makes navigation seamless.
My friends and I finished the *D&D* last week with an extra Sunday session. We were really close to the end of the story, and wanted to make sure we'd be able to play it before another lockdown hit us. Barovia wasn't kind to our characters, but we are satisfied with the way it ended. Our next campaign will begin when it is safe again to travel and gather. Not just because of safety (which is of course the main reason), but also because one of my friends is a doctor, working in the local hospital's ICU, and he is doing extra hours.
I read Edward Snowden's book. Nothing inside of it is a surprise, yet I never really grasped how severe the situation is until I read it. The book itself is very well written and enjoyable (given the content), and it was interesting to read how Snowden and I actually share the same feelings of missing "the old" internet. His experience of computers and the internet is actually quite similar to mine, down to playing Ultima Online and to first meeting technology through a Commodore 64 - except for the fact that I am most definitely not a computer genius.
I also watched "Citizenfour", by Laura Poitras, and ended up becoming a big fan of hers and Greenwald's work. I find this documentary to be complementary to Snowden's book.
