Pesky 'WALL WARTs' by IOLFREE / / /
This is a bit geeky but some on gemini might identify with it. I've got a crate of different power supply units, some 12v, some 9 or 10v, got linear, switched mode, centre positive, even centre negative. They are sort of like scrap, some of them are scrap because they fell apart but most are 100% good and I keep them in case I need them. They tend to have different DC plugs on them that all differ. So they never fit into the radio or the printer or whatever. I've a water fountain/filter, for the dog, which runs on 12v. The pump has a little DC plug on the end of its wire with a little DC socket on the wall wart. Anyway that wall-wart disintegrated.
So I considered using one of my spare PSUs up in the crate but how can I plug a plug into a plug ? I'd have to chop plugs off and splice wires. NO! That's an ugly hack and fragile. Instead I got an adaptor with a socket on each end but you can only find these things online.
I need a whole set of tips for these PSUs. I think my brother threw out the PSU for my AA battery charger. He borrowed the charger for a while but he returned it with the wrong power supply. What happened was he was de-cluttering and got a bit ruthless and rounded up all his electric / electronic scrap and drove them to the electric scrapheap.... Anyway he gave me the wrong wall-wart for my charger. It had the right plug but it was only 4.5v. Meanwhile I think the correct one went to the scrapheap! What a waste.
Thus I ordered another adaptor online which had the ~5mm socket on one end and a smaller plug maybe 3mm on the other and so I was able to use one of my spare 12v PSUs to power up the charger. It works well. But in fact he forewarned me about this purge before he did it, and offered me stuff so I got a good USB mouse and a kettle lead.......
