gem.mjb.im / gemlog / "Hello, Gemini"

Written October 6th, 2020

First off, requisite "hello world". My name is Michael, you can find more about me at the homepage here at gem.mjb.im. This is my shiny new gemlog. I've seen a lot of gemini sites (which I think are called Capsules? Is that right?) that mirror other blog locations, and I think that's a generally neat idea, but I'd also like to write some Gemini-specific (or, perhaps even ~exclusive~) stuff.

I've long daydreamed about building a protocol much like gemini. I, like many others, have a fascination with building systems that perhaps don't need to exist but uh...sound real fun to build anyway. But time gets away from me as it tends to do, and I caught wind of Gemini a few months back. After seeing more and more posts about it, I decided I really wanted in. So, excited to be here for real, hosting a server where I really hope I can actually do some fun stuff.

I'd like to play around with a few semi-dynamic parts of this space. Perhaps mirror my twitter feed to a dedicated page here, or have a few programs running and exposed over this site, not quite sure yet all the details, but I'll post when I build something.

As for now, just getitng set up and browsing around, looking for inspiration out here in the quiet drift of the gemini space.
