Whoami
kraileth: Husband, father, computer nerd, language lover, broody person
(Note: My wife would insist that this is in completely random order!!)
I'm a guy well in his 30's and a Linux / BSD administrator by profession. If my job, my family and my primary hobby (playing with and writing about tech) leave some time, I'm also a hobbyist writer of fiction (mostly Fantasy or SciFi). I'm a curious person who likes to go on adventures (both digital and in the real world) and trying out new things (which might be why I'm on Gemini, too!).
Contact
I run the domain __elderlinux.org__. Feel free to drop me a mail. The address is: mynick AT mydomain. No XMPP or other messengers currently.
What I like
- Playing with computers - i.e. discovering interesting new programs, optimizing my workflow, make systems be less aweful then they were before, ... (right, the occasional game, too. At least once in a while. Aww, ok, perhaps more like twice a year...).
- Learning new things. My field of interest is far to broad for one life, so I'm usually left to choose between way to many things...
- Reading. Reading fiction now and then is a luxury, but tech books or any kind of good articles can be great as well.
- Heavy Metal (most sub-genres but not all)
- Moments of silence and regeneration in nature
- History in general and ancient civilisations in particular
- (Civilized) discussions on "hot" topics - be it politics, religious belief systems, etc.
- Open-minded people who understand that a holistic world-view has room for multiple contradicting truths.
What I dislike
- Extremists (people resorting to violence). I'm fine with radical positions and ideas. But there's a hard line which is not to cross.
- Hypocrisy (nope, not the band).
- Illogical thinking.
- Completely unreflected positions...
- Indifference towards the environment and carelessnes about the way "modern" society impacts our planet.
What I hate
I try not to. Hatred is a purely negative and devastating emotion. It's all-devouring, not only to the (possible) harm of the hated object but also to the corruption of the hating subject. Nothing constructive or positive can breed from hatred, ever.
