Encounters

Posted at 2020-08-08

Hanging out with a friend, I had three encounters with suspicious-looking men. Sounds like a content for my gemlog!

Encounter 1: a looking one

A suspicious man mumbled to us while we were walking down the Lenin street.

My friend then told that there's no Komsomol street in that direction. I mixed up the Komsomol street and the Communist street! What a shame. I hope the man gets where he wanted to.

Encounter 2: a beggar

A suspicious man mumbled to us while we were walking down the Chernyshevsky street.

I don't know how it works in more civilized countries, but I find it shameful for a grown-up adult to ask money from teenagers. That's why I never give money to beggars that actively ask me for that. Also, not like I have any paper money to share. I wonder what opinion I'll have once I'm not a teenager anymore though.

Encounter 3: a thief

While previous two encounters are pretty boring and normal in Russia, this one is somewhat exotic. It happened when we parted with the friend and I was walking home. A happy suspicious man crossed the street, walked near and mumbled to me:

Internally I laughed so hard because I remembered the memes about how good feminine looking programmers are. While I don't consider myself to look feminine, other people sometimes think otherwise. The main reason for that is probably my tremendously long hair. To finish the image of the 100% programmer, I wore not matching clothes: a checked shirt, torn jeans, a coat of some sort and a cool Zelda baseball hat. Indeed, only 100% programmers look like that. Gotta update my github status.

The word he said, ‘Spyridon’, left me wondering what is the meaning. I didn't recognise it as a name at first. I thought it's an archaic version of ‘thief’ I didn't know of. I also thought this: “Oh, there was a word like that in English, right? Right in that game I played, there was a mercenary with the class of Spyridon, so it must be somehow connected!”. When I came home, I looked up for the word. No such word in neither Russian nor English, but there's a name like that! Also, that character in the game had class Myrmidon.

I'm surprised I enjoyed having a small talk with a thief, a person doing one of the most disgusting things to do. I think a character called Spyridon the Thief will somehow appear in a story I'll create someday.

P.S. I wasn't robbed. I think he kinda liked me. How charming can I be?
