When I can get away with it I try and run mostly 9front servers. When I cant I will use mostly FreeBSD. For my laptop and desktop I like Linux without systemd and perferably without glibc. I also admire openBSD from a far but currently I find myself using FreeBSD more often due to one reason or another.
I write mostly C, Go, and shell scripts. I dont mind Rust that much but dont find myself writing it often. I consider static typing crucial to a language's ecosystem and appreciate easily cross compiling code for different architectures or operating systems. I also find Object Orientated design to be an anti-patern.
Most of my hardware is second hand from university surplus, so I dont really 'choose' it much. I run two HP Proliant servers for managing my homelab. One of them runs a bunch of 9front virtual machine through Bhyve on FreeBSD and the other runs a couple of lx zones through OmniOS.
