Back when I phlogged on SDF, I had a nice little burrow of collected essays and things. I decided to start that again here on KVOTHE-ONE:
Whenever I find some writing I'd like to stash away, especially if it blew my hair back, I think that'll be a nice home for it.
For the christening text, I decided I'd re-share Betrand Russell's 1932 essay:
I don't know why, but I really REALLY like Bertrand Russell's writing, at least as far as it makes me think of the ways in which we trick ourselves into allocating our resources. "In Praise of Idleness" reframes leisure time as THE critical resource of our time, and labor for the sake of labor as one of the greatest thefts that's hidden in plain sight. It's just a really REALLY good read, in my opinion.
I've been leaning back into "idleness" lately. Nothing performative, just doing things that strike my fancy. Today, I installed Brutal Doom, a Doom/Doom II mod, on my OpenBSD laptop just to have something lively to play. I've purchased the series on GOG.com previously, so I just had to use `innoextract` on the GOG setup executables to get the WADs out and `unrar` to unpack the Brutal Doom files.
Once the WAD file(s) and the .pk3 file are extracted, I just run it with `gzdoom`:
mongol$ gzdoom brutalv21.pk3 GZDoom <unknown version> - - SDL version Compiled on May 9 2020 M_LoadDefaults: Load system defaults. Please select a game wad (or 0 to exit): 1. DOOM 2: Hell on Earth (DOOM2) 2. The Ultimate DOOM (DOOM) Which one? 1
My 9front VM also comes with a Doom executable, but I don't know how well it'll work over a `drawterm` session. Side note, @foone got Doom working on a pregnancy test, so anything's possible, really:

Anyway, yeah! I've been aggressively reclaiming doing things for me. Maybe I'll tinker this weekend, maybe I'll read, maybe I'll do nothing and be happy with that, too!
Until next time, be well!
