A popular topic of discussion on Gemini is how it could be used in circumstances that only allow for low-bandwidth communications. I wonder if and how Gemini would need to change for governments and organizations to seriously adopt it for such purposes. Is the protocol lacking robustness, or does it need features such as content length or error correction? Does certificate-based authentication provide advantages over traditional password-based authentication? It would be interesting to see how Gemini stacks up.
My wife and I met up with my parents on Saturday to attend an exhibit. On the way there I discovered that I had left my personal smartphone at our house, and I only had my work phone with me. That meant I couldn't use any of my normal apps, including messaging and Web/Gemini browsing, though I could still take photos and send them back to myself. To my surprise, I found that I didn't miss my device--when I got home and I started mowing our lawn, I left it inside again.
Right now I have more computing devices than I have uses for computers, even for hobbies. Most notable is my Lenovo ThinkPad T410, the device on which I started to learn OpenBSD. I've put off learning more about OpenBSD for the moment since 7.5 is not compatible with NNCP, a program I use heavily.
I exercised a lot during the second half of May, from loading and unloading moving trucks to swimming at a few local pools. However, I ate poorly, indulging in sweets when away from the house and overeating during many meals. My weight remained steady over the last two weeks as a result. Things should settle down in my offline life in the nest few weeks, leaving me with fewer temptations.

In an effort to save money and eat more healthily, we decided to prep several weeks' worth of meals over the weekend. We ultimately made five different recipes of 8 servings each. The process involved cooking almost 15 pounds of meat, an amount I hadn't seen all in one place in a very long time.

I attended an anime convention over the weekend. The convention featured an arcade gaming room, with machines provided by an outside vendor as well as enthusiasts in the local area. A local owner received a request to load another game on his cabinet, and during the process, we got a rare glimpse of the underlying operating system for the machine. This particular game runs on Windows Embedded 7.

We built a raised-bed garden in our backyard about six weeks ago and planted several starter plants. They immediately began to brown, and we worried that we'd already killed them, but we soon discovered that the soil was simply too dry. 41 days later and one strict watering regimen later, we now have our first batch of crops, including several strawberries and even a jalapeno pepper.
