Ferrets and End-of-Year Status

Merry belated Christmas, Gemini!

It has been sixteen days since I last posted a log--the longest break I've taken since I first launched my capsule. One event has primarily distracted me in that time. Two weeks ago, my wife and I decided to purchase two ferrets.

Ferrets are exotic pets and are more difficult to care for than rodents, or even cats or dogs. We spent quite a bit of time researching their dietary needs, the best cage for them, they play habits, their behaviors and body language, and other information. As soon as my wife absorbed it all, she was ready to jump in, but I needed some time to be convinced.

We wanted boys, but the local pet stores didn't have boys available, and we didn't want to wait for potential months to get them. We bought two girls from a reputable independent shop that boards ferrets as well as selling them, and we visited them a few times before making the decision to buy the particular ferrets we chose.

Ferrets require a few hours of play time and enrichment per day. This has been exciting, but it's also been a difficult change in routine to acclimate to. I'm often the one to take the ferrets out in the morning, interacting with them for upwards of an hour before logging in to work. We need to take them out for a similar amount of time in the evening, which cuts into our time to do chores or see friends.

I don't regret buying new pets, but I'm still trying to adjust my daily routine to accommodate them while taking care of other parts of my life. Gemini is one of my hobbies that's fallen by the wayside in the interim.

However, I haven't stopped working on my capsule entirely. A few more chess bugs have been fixed, as well as a bug in my guestbook. I'm also nearly finished with a new math article that I hope to have up soon. 2024 will certainly not be stagnant on Rob's Capsule.
