2021 Week 46/47: Thoughts and Catch-up

2021-11-29

At the local airport is a facility that stores, overhauls, leases, and parts out aircraft. I often seen several exotic airliners there from operators like Saudia and Qantas. Ground activity is rare there, but last week I was lucky to catch a stored Boeing 747-400 being parked on the near side of the lot.

To do a proper weigh-in for my personal tracking, I always weigh myself three times and take the arithmetic mean. A few weekends ago, beyond having a few alcoholic drinks, I binged on a lot of chocolate and cookies. I knew my numbers were going to be horrible afterward, but I was so disgusted with myself come Monday, I decided not to do a proper weigh-in after seeing the first number. It was the first time since late 2020 that I've deliberately skipped a weigh-in, and I'm ashamed of myself.

The weather was quite nice on Saturday: the temperature reached the upper teens Celsius. Temperatures will continue to be good this week, but because I work full-time, the sun is often setting by the time I leave the office. I took the opportunity to ride my bicycle one last time before the full onset of winter.

I still intend to self-host many services such as Mastodon, PeerTube and a Syncthing index. My biggest obstacle is proper networking within qemu. I can set up a virtual network adapter that will communicate with the open Internet, but not one that can talk to the rest of my home network. I need that for some of my projects, but I simply cannot figure out how to do it.

In the wake of the party a few weeks ago, I'm slowly getting back into Super Monkey Ball. In 2015 I was approaching world-class levels of play, but there were still many skips and tricks I didn't know how to do. Six years later I've even forgotten some of the strats I used to know. This weekend I spent some time relearning an old one, which was a pretty fun experience.

Late Autumn Dusk

I find sunsets uniquely beautiful because of the different shades of color they can display. This particular evening was full of purple light due to the angle of the evening sun on high clouds. I normally apply some small color and lighting corrections to my pictures, but beyond resizing and posterization, this photo is untouched.

One "Good" S

(PNG, 800x450, 212 KiB)

This Pump It Up chart, "Cosmical Rhythm" D16, barely qualifies as a 16 by my reckoning. My accuracy in almost all rhythm games is poor, however, so anytime I achieve an "S" rank I'm very happy. There are three levels of "S" rank one can achieve in PIU; since I received one "good" judgment, I achieved the middle rank.
