2021 Week 16: Thoughts and Catch-Up

I did not mow my own lawn last year due to a back injury. My wife and I moved into our current house in September of 2019, which meant that I only mowed the lawn a few times myself before winter arrived. Today was the first time since then that I've mowed the lawn myself. It felt pretty good to jump into it again.

On the subject of activities I haven't engaged in in a while, this Wednesday will be the first time since March 2020 that I will work in my office. I'm more excited to go back than I can properly convey.

My foray this week into the trigonometry of cubic equations has caused me to ponder if such solutions can be generalized. For example, given a quartic equation in one variable with real coefficients and all roots real, is it possible to place four points equidistantly on a sphere (i.e. the vertexes of a regular tetrahedron) whose x-coordinates are the four roots of the quartic? How does such a placement relate to the coefficients of the quartic?

Yesterday's bicycle ride took me from my house to my parents' house. They live about six miles away as the crow flies, but the route I took, which avoided traveling along almost all major roads, was over eight miles. They offered to give me a ride back home afterward.
