Somehow I completely missed this until now, but apparently Google added something to Android that lets F-Droid (and other alternate app stores) automatically install app updates without root nor making you manually approve every single one, as long as you manually approved installing/updating that app at least once. I wonder if it's a rare genuine W that some engineer pushed through, or if they did it to help bolster the case for not getting an Apple app store situation with the Google Play store
