@phf Yeah, this is exactly the point. We can lament deindustrialisation and outsourcing or high prices, not both. So it's bad news, perhaps in the short run, but the economy will continue, prices will go up and perhaps consumption will go down. For the good of the planet, we must all consume less and be materially poorer anyway, so that's one of the very few points where I don't mind. My personal beef with tariffs is when some big corporations can get a break and ordinary people cannot; or when a breakdown of trade relations makes us more willing to go to war… 😬
