As a "social network" youTube is poor. Comments are easily buried. Google has done little to develop the ability to have conversations. The way they notify you when your comment gets a reply is bad. If you don't see it when it pops up it just... disappears. This is one of many reasons youTube comment sections have such a terrible reputation.
If you have ever left a thoughtful comment on a video you might find this link interesting. You may have replies waiting for you.

@futurebird While this is true for "general audience" type videos, I've found comments for niche technical topics waaaay above average on YouTube vs other platforms. Lots of new ideas [β¦]

I only still engage with youTube because they *are* good at serving video. And this seems to keep a lot of people who make interesting videos using them drawing me back. Really it's just the [β¦]
