I worked at a place in…2014 I think…that required that we use whatever version of Perl came with FreeBSD 4, so Perl 5.6.0.
Not for any reason other than we had a manager who was convinced we’d sell more product by saying we’d work on a 14 year old version of FreeBSD. To my knowledge we never sold a single instance of the product on anything other than the latest version of RHEL.
