Except that starting with v257 they actually don't have to differ anymore: there's a new modifier to tmpfiles.d/ line types C and L: if suffixed with "?" then the lines are conditionalized on whether the source actually exists. If yes, the file is copied, if not the line is skipped.
This allows a single tmpfiles.d/ drop-in to cover a variety of distro arrangements, covering for small differences, both for source files in the factory tree and outside.

@pid_eins i really hope that some day the tmpfiles.d format will be transformed from whatever it is right now to .ini like all the other *normal* systemd configs.
