I like something with the word kits in it, if the purpose is to identify the purpose.
start*... could be confused with join like

start. sounds like an old Yahoo! or AltaVista-like website... perhaps that is what you want; a directory of communities?
@dansup #2 or #4 should work nicely (or, I suppose) you could make them all resolve to the same spot.
@dansup I like the idea and domain but its to technical, who cares about the protocol? If you want to reach non-techies than rethink about the domain.
