That puts us back to the living conditions of the Gilded Age, when the wealthy lived lavishly and the working class barely made subsistence wages while diseases were rampant.
In 1899, women earned an average of $267 a year, nearly half of menβs average pay of $498. Andrew Carnegie however, made $23 million.
