@briankrebs I agree. Now that the lack of oversight is a feature, it's more important than ever* to try to talk to the folks you'd be responsible for before they get sucked in to it.
Talking to family about questionable investments they don't entirely understand is difficult, especially when you don't share their excitement. Cryptocurrency gets a semi-religious fervor of "investing in commemorative gold coins" or collecting beanie babies. The FTC has some good guidance on what to do after paying a scammer (below), but the same ideas are true before they lose it all too.
