While this is not a "hard" security measure and might lead to a false sense of security, it is an easy and effective method of #dataHygiene.
I wonder, if any #Jabber clients have this feature?

Yes, Conversations (and derivatives) support automatically cleaning out your old messages (Settings->Security).
