Ward passed away this week: arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/1…
I got to meet him at Vintage Computer Festival Midwest last year, where he was volunteering with the Build-A-Blinkie nonprofit, an organization that aims to et people soldering. He was there helping people solder and encouraging them -- including my 6-yr-old daughter, who soldered with me for the first time right there. What a memory.
He was every bit the kind, quiet, unassuming person he looks like.

BBSs were an important way I got connect with others outside my small town in my younger years. Ward will be missed.
