@briankrebs I'd bet no on the "nifty piece of hardware"; the tracking stuff is largely integrated into the head unit and won't be something you can just send a CAN message or two to shut off (and also you shouldn't really drive with a random doodad plugged into OBD-II anyway; you'll face some very hard questions in the case of an insurance claim).
physically getting to the cellular modem would be a big job and would void your vehicle's warranty, so likely not worth it for a brand new car.
