I think it depends which services are really independent. In Bluesky you can move your data around (right now: away from the bluesky server to your own, but not back). Mastodon can export the data, but not import.
The contacts can be exported and imported in Mastodon/Fediverse, while Bluesky has a central list of contacts.
I think Blueksys main goal was to be not responsible for the contents of people. Mastodon is for the people.

@Sascha @pluralistic Ah so even on Mastodon when you "move" to a new server you're really just moving your identity & connections, but not you post history? That seems like a weak solution.
